Mitsubishi Endeavor for 2008: Stylishly rugged, loaded with features
An excellent value, Endeavor is a well designed and well appointed SUV
MISSISSAUGA, Ont. – The 2008 Mitsubishi Endeavor continues to define the midsize crossover segment by integrating the bold styling and utility of a true SUV with the driving performance and handling of a passenger car. Endeavor for 2008 is the perfect choice for people with a real need for space and who prefer the driving dynamics of a car, but still get the occasional opportunity to go off-road.
Capable, roomy, adventurous and sophisticated, Endeavor for 2008 is offered three trim levels and two model designations. Endeavor SE is available in an affordable and fuel efficient FWD version as well as in the more traditional AWD configuration. Endeavor LTD, packed with features, is available exclusively with AWD. Improved safety features, updated badges, new exterior colours and even more convenience are all addressed in the 2008 Endeavor.
“The new Endeavor is a perfect combination of sophistication, strength, luxury, utility and styling.”, said Koji Soga, President and CEO of Mitsubishi Motor Sales of Canada Inc. (MMSCAN) “ It’s an excellent product. Comfortable, easy to drive, well engineered, and very competitively priced.”
Powertrain & Suspension
Every 2008 Mitsubishi Endeavor is powered by a responsive 3.8 litre, SOHC, 24 valve, V6 engine that provides brisk acceleration, efficient fuel economy and exceptional drivability. This proven engine produces 225 hp at 5000 rpm and peak torque of 255 lb ft at 3750 rpm, which propels the Endeavor from zero to 100 km/hr in under 10 seconds. All Endeavors feature a 4 speed Sportronic® automatic transmission that allows drivers to manually shift gears if desired. All Wheel Drive (AWD) models utilize a transfer case that combines a bevel gear centre differential with a viscous coupling to achieve a 50/50 torque split between the front and rear wheels, which provides greatly improved traction and control in all driving conditions.
Comfortable yet precise handling is the result of a well engineered fully independent suspension system that provides superior stability and ride quality. The front design uses MacPherson struts with the addition of a large rigid cross-member to help control torsional flexing and improve steering response. The rear design utilizes an advanced multi-link configuration with trailing arms and coil springs, for balanced handling and ride comfort. Hydroformed cross members help to reduce flex and road noise, and stabilizer bars are used front and rear. The power assisted steering system is rack and pinion with 3.05 turns lock to lock with car like responsiveness. The large front brakes are ventilated discs and the rear brakes are use solid discs. Towing capacities are as follows: Endeavor SE 2WD, 907 kg or 2000 lbs.; SE 4WD and LTD 4WD, 1588 kg or 3500 lbs.
Chassis & Safety
Endeavor is built on a unibody chassis which makes extensive use of high strength steel. This RISE (Reinforced Impact Safety Evolution) structure disperses energy loads during side and rear collisions and controls distortion, enhancing occupant protection and helping to protect the fuel system in the event of a rear impact. Other standard safety features include: Advanced dual stage front air bags, front seat mounted side impact air bags, plus front and rear side curtain airbags. All five seating positions have 3 point safety belts. Front seats have height adjustable shoulder anchors plus pretentioners and force limiters for the front belts. Also included are child safety locks for the rear doors; a LATCH system for CRS; steel side guard door beams; front and rear crumple zones, an anti-theft engine immobilizer and security alarm system. Endeavor has a full size spare wheel and tire, with a towing prep package, and an improved for 2008 tire pressure monitoring system, which alerts Endeavor drivers when tire pressure is low, which may help slow tire wear and reduce the potential for a blowout.
Every Endeavor is equipped with anti-lock brakes (ABS) with electronic brakeforce distribution (EBD) and Mitsubishi Active Stability and Traction Control (M-ASTC).
Thoughtful utility – It just makes a lot of sense
A well designed SUV should offer a level of function and capability that far exceeds that of a car, and the 2008 Endeavor does just that. Large doors and ideal ride height facilitate easy entry and exit. The roomy interior provides legroom for all in comfort. The rear suspension is low enough to allow a large and flat cargo floor that facilitates loading. An easy to operate tailgate swings high enough to clear taller heads and reveals a cargo area that can accommodate a four foot wide sheet of plywood. In addition, the curved rear hatch glass can be opened without opening the rear tailgate, perfect for loading smaller items. Roof rails are standard equipment, plus the roof rack on LTD models includes cross members that facilitate the mounting of accessories.
