Mississauga, ON – April 30, 2020- Even in normal times when school is in session, the Breakfast Club of Canada (BCC) is called on to help kids with a nutritious breakfast. Mitsubishi Motors Canada and its dealers have partnered with BCC since 2016, providing hundreds of thousands of breakfasts as the organization’s exclusive automaker partner.

Today, amid COVID-19, the need for proper nutrition is acute and the Mitsubishi team is helping with money for food to feed families plus the means to deliver the precious hampers to the communities that require them. “I am very impressed by Mitsubishi Motors Canada and their willingness to find tangible ways to support Breakfast Club of Canada. During this Covid-19 crisis they are contributing in a unique way to help us reach families in need,” said Daniel Germain, president and founder, Breakfast Club of Canada.

Immediately, Mitsubishi Motors and its dealers are providing $50,000 for filled food hampers plus a fleet of Eclipse Cross “Community Utility Vehicles” for logistics. We are proud to give new meaning to the term “CUV” said Juyu Jeon, president and CEO, Mitsubishi Motors Canada, to help combat an unprecedented increase in the need for healthy food throughout disrupted Canadian communities.

BCC’s Emergency Club Fund initiative is also cooperating with food industry partners as part of the National Task Force to meet the need for help. Jeon is optimistic that Mitsubishi Motors can play an important part. “Working together, we hope to make a meaningful difference for children and families and the community at large.”

With school closed the logistical requirements have changed in food delivery for vulnerable children and youth. In some cases, not for profit organizations have established community food hubs where families and children who were part of the breakfast program, can pick up meal packages and gift cards. In Langley, B.C., where the Mitsubishi Community Utility Vehicle will be used, the Langley School District Foundation will be driving and dropping off grocery gift cards to families who are not able to access the community hubs.

As part of the National Food Task Force, Breakfast Club of Canada’s mandate has expanded. For example in Toronto, the Mitsubishi Utility Vehicle will be used by the Toronto People with AIDS Foundation to deliver meals to people living with HIV or AIDS who are in isolation due to their compromised immune systems. 

In Montreal, Mitsubishi Motors is pleased to lend a third vehicle to Bouffe-Action de Rosemont, an organization dedicated to combating food insecurity. With social distancing measures in place, more vehicles are needed to offer services. The initiative led by Bouffe-Action de Rosemont, with the support of La Cantine pour tous, aims to offer a variety of food services from food donations and the distribution of prepared meals to collectives for the most vulnerable in the community.
