Outlander PHEV is Canada’s best-selling plug-in hybrid SUV

Mississauga, ON – Jan. 3, 2019 – Mitsubishi Motors’ 25,237 vehicle sales in 2018 represented the company’s best-ever annual performance in Canada. Surpassing last year’s record year, the company achieved an 11 per cent increase over 2017 aided by the launch of the Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV, which quickly became Canada’s No. 1 plug-in hybrid SUV.

In 2018, Outlander PHEV broke an industry record becoming the first plug-in hybrid of any kind to reach 5,000 vehicle sales in a calendar year. Outlander PHEV closed the year with 5,270 annual sales. The Mitsubishi Outlander closed the year with 5,768 vehicles sales helping the Outlander brand to achieve an outstanding 11,038 total vehicles sold for the year.

Mitsubishi’s top-selling nameplate, the Mitsubishi RVR reached 6,229 annual sales and the Mitsubishi’s newest compact crossover utility entry, the Eclipse Cross achieved 3,596 deliveries at year-end. In 2018, Mitsubishi Motors doubled its SUV model offerings to Canadian consumers. The popular utility models represented 83 per cent of the company’s total volume.

The subcompact Mitsubishi Mirage hatchback and Mirage G4 sedan models hit 2,351 deliveries and the company’s Mitsubishi Lancer family of sedans notched 2,012 with its last month of sales in July.

Last month’s sales of 1,643 was up 28 per cent from last December.
