Mitsubishi Sets All-Time Sales Record in 2013
RVR leaps to best-seller status
Mississauga, ON – Jan. 3, 2014 – Mitsubishi’s 2013 vehicle sales shattered historic levels to establish the young company’s best-ever sales year. Led by the Mitsubishi RVR compact crossover, Mitsubishi Motor Sales of Canada (MMSCAN) sold 21,104 vehicles in 2013, up 7.3 % compared to 19,671 sales in 2012 and 20,511 deliveries in 2011 (the previous high-water mark).
Led by 7,653 sales of Mitsubishi RVR, followed by perennial sales leader Mitsubishi Lancer compact sedans (including sedan, Sportback, Ralliart and Evolution models) with 7,404 deliveries, dealers saw a significant bounce in showroom traffic with the arrival of the all-new 2014 Mitsubishi Mirage subcompact hatchback in late September and new 2014 Mitsubishi Outlander compact sport utility.
Annual Outlander sales reached 5,262 units while Mirage sales numbered 614. Mitsubishi’s award-winning, all-electric i-MiEV hatchback accounted for 168 sales in 2013 while the discontinued Eclipse saw three deliveries.
MMSCAN’s new president and CEO Kenichiro Yamamoto noted the record sales year is consistent with Mitsubishi’s sales growth plans for Canada.
“Mitsubishi has a solid future in Canada. Our business plan is simple: Expand our product line-up to give Canadian consumers a broader array of high-quality, reliable cars, crossovers and sport utility vehicles backed by the best warranty in the business.”
For December 2013, MMSCAN’s 88 dealerships reported sales of 1,313 units, down 23% versus 1,708 sales in 2012, largely due to significantly reduced factory inventory of the popular Mitsubishi Lancer.
