2013 Mitsubishi i-MiEV Gets new SE model

Mississauga, ON (November 2013) – Last month’s launch of the all-new Mirage capped a year of product growth for Mitsubishi following the June arrival of the new 2014 Outlander compact sport utility. Rounding out Mitsubishi offerings are best sellers Lancer and RVR, as well as the all-electric i-MiEV – all of which offer subtle changes to standard equipment and nomenclature in the new model year.

Mitsubishi’s most popular vehicle in Canada, the Lancer, adds the SE Limited Edition model to the line-up. The 2014 Lancer SE Limited is the new name of the last year’s successful 10th Anniversary Edition and includes standard power sunroof, rear wing spoiler, leather-wrapped steering wheel and shift knob, along with five-spoke aluminum alloy wheels and fog lamps.

With a starting price of $19,998, the Lancer SE Limited Edition represents exceptional value with approximately $2,500 worth of no-charge extra features.

Lancer DE, SE, SE Limited and GT models all feature the 2.0-litre, 148-horsepower four-cylinder engine and five-speed manual transmission with optional Continuously Variable Transmission.

The SE AWC and GT AWC models are powered by the 2.4-litre, four-cylinder, 168-horsepower engine mated to the Sportronic Continuously Variable Transmission. All Wheel Control, featuring push-button, 2WD/4WD Auto/4WD Lock drive-mode selector, and rear wing spoiler are standard; the GT AWC also features leather seating surfaces, FAST-key keyless entry and starting system, power sunroof and the 710-watt Rockford Fosgate audio system.

New for 2014, all Lancer models receive new audio systems with Lancer GT, Lancer GT AWC and Lancer Sportback GT adding display audio with colour LCD screen as standard.

MSRPs on the 2014 Mitsubishi Lancer range begin at $14,998 for the DE model, $19,198 on Lancer SE model, and $24,098 on Lancer GT. The 2014 Lancer SE AWC and GT AWC models have MSRPs of $22,998 and $27,998, respectively.

Standard equipment on Lancer models includes:

  • Air conditioning, heated front seats (except DE model)
  • ABS with Electronic Brake-Force Distribution, Brake Assist System and Brake Override System
  • Seven airbags – dual front, dual front-seat mounted side-impact, dual side-impact curtain and driver’s knee airbag
  • Tilt- and height-adjustable steering
  • Power door locks, power windows with auto up/down driver’s window
  • 140-watt AM/FM/CD/MP3 audio with four speakers
  • Bluetooth® 2.0 hands-free interface, cruise control, heated and folding power side-view mirrors, cruise control, and remote keyless entry (except DE)

Mitsubishi’s distinctive Lancer models, Ralliart and Evolution, also receive new audio systems for 2014 model year, with the base models also including satellite radio with six-month complimentary subscription.

The Mitsubishi RVR features a standard 2.0-litre, 148-horsepower four-cylinder engine and is one of the most fuel-efficient crossovers in Canada with a highway rating of 6.3 L/100 km. Standard equipment on all RVRs includes:

  • Air conditioning, heated front seats, rear armrest with cup holders
  • ABS with Electronic Brake-Force Distribution, Brake Assist System and Brake Override System
  • Seven airbags – dual front, dual front seat-mounted side-impact, dual side-impact curtain and driver’s knee airbag
  • Tilt/telescopic steering, and steering-mounted cruise control
  • Power door locks with remote keyless entry
  • 140-watt AM/FM/CD/MP3 audio with four speakers, and multi-information display

In two-wheel-drive ES and SE models, the engine is mated to a standard five-speed manual transmission, with optional CVT available for the SE. Four-wheel-drive SE and GT models receive the CVT and all-wheel control featuring 2WD/4WD Auto/4WD Lock drive-mode selector.

The MSRP on the 2014 Mitsubishi RVR ES model is $19,998, and $22,298 on the SE model. Four-wheel-drive SE and GT models have MSRPs of $25,698 and $28,498, respectively.

New for 2014, a new RVR GT base model receives display audio and reverse camera as standard. GT customers can also select a Premium Package consisting of leather seating surfaces, power driver’s seat, rear cargo cover and 710-watt Rockford Fosgate® display audio system with nine speakers include a 10-inch subwoofer. Moreover, customers opting for the Premium Package may also upgrade to the RVR Navigation Package consisting of Mitsubishi’s multi-communication system with SD navigation and real-time traffic information. The MSRP for the Premium Package is $1,500, and $2,730 for the Navigation Package.

The Mitsubishi Lancer is an IIHS Top Safety Pick while RVR and Outlander have achieved Top Safety Pick +, the highest rating possible. They include seven airbags as standard and are backed by one of the best warranties in the world – 10 years or 160,000 km limited powertrain, five years or 100,000 km limited new vehicle and five years, unlimited mileage roadside assistance.

One of Canada’s most affordable four-passenger all-electric vehicles, the Mitsubishi i-MiEV continues as a 2013 model wherein the range received a new, mid-range SE model, faster charging, plus heated front seats and seatbacks.

The innovative hatchback received an improved 120-volt, two-mode cable capable of reducing charge times to 14 hours (from empty) – previous models required up to 22 hours. The more common 240-volt Level Two charger is unchanged, requiring up to seven hours from empty.

Also in 2013 a new i-MiEV SE model was released with all the features of the base ES model plus upgrades such as 15-inch alloy wheels, premium seat fabric, leather-wrapped steering wheel and shifter, 360-watt audio system, silver cluster accents and dual-vanity mirrors.

An optional Navigation Package offers a 40-GB, hard-disc drive navigation system on a seven-inch touch-screen display with rearview camera and Bluetooth connectivity. The i-MiEV SE with Navigation Package is the new top-of-the-line i-MiEV.

Also in 2013, i-MiEV received complete driver and front passenger seat heating including both seat backs and cushions for the driver and front passenger.

The MSRP on the Mitsubishi i-MiEV ES model is $33,998, and $35,498 on the SE model; add an MSRP of $2,500 for the Navigation Package.

All i-MiEVs feature a long list of standard equipment:

  • AC synchronous motor (66 horsepower, 145 ft. lbs. of torque)
  • Six airbags – dual front, dual side-impact curtain and front-seat mounted side-impact airbags
  • Four wheel anti-lock brakes and electronic brake-force distribution
  • Active Stability Control and Traction Control Logic (comprised of stability control which stabilizes the vehicle when it detects skidding and traction control to control wheels from spinning when detecting loss of traction over slippery surfaces)
  • Brake Assist and Brake Override Systems
  • Anti-theft immobilizer and anti-theft security alarm system
  • MacPherson strut front suspension, three-link de Dion rear suspension
  • Power windows and door locks with remote keyless entry
  • 50/50 split folding rear seats
  • Heated front seats and six-way adjustable driver’s seat
  • Air conditioning and micron air filtration
  • Battery warmer
  • MiEV Remote for timer charging, remote climate control (pre-cooling and pre-heating during charging)
  • Acoustic Vehicle Alerting System for pedestrians

The Mitsubishi i-MiEV is a rear-wheel-drive, five-door, four-passenger, subcompact hatchback with a range of up to 155 km. It is the only electric car in Canada to offer a DC quick charging port as standard equipment. The “quick charger” provides i-MiEV an 80 per cent charge in less than 30 minutes.
