The 2011 Lancer Ralliart – Technology, Performance, All-Wheel Control

Lancer Ralliart: 4-door sport sedan convenience and affordable sophistication

MISSISSAUGA, Ont. (October, 2010) – The 2011 Mitsubishi Lancer Ralliart combines advanced technology, exceptional performance and full time all wheel drive grip with aggressive styling, superior handling and available luxury at an affordable price. There are no significant mechanical changes to Lancer Ralliart for the 2011 model year.

Lancer Ralliart is a genuine rarity. A true high performance compact sports sedan with fierce acceleration, astonishingly predictable handling and unrivaled peace of mind, in all driving conditions – dry, wet, snow, ice or gravel.

It is also an extremely well equipped, comfortable, five passenger, four door, family sedan. Ralliart is powered by a turbocharged, 237 hp version of the Lancer Evolution 4B11 engine mated to a Mitsubishi 6-speed Twin Clutch Sportronic® Shift Transmission (TC-SST) which transmits power to all four wheels using Mitsubishi’s sophisticated All Wheel Control (AWC) system. This exciting member of the Mitsubishi passenger car lineup is perfectly positioned between the new Lancer GT model and the ultra powerful Lancer Evolution – of World Rally Championship heritage.

State of the art powertrain – putting horsepower on the ground

The Lancer Ralliart 4B11 aluminum engine is a 2.0 litre, 16 valve, DOHC, MIVEC, intercooled and turbocharged design that develops 237 hp @ 6000 rpm and 253 lb-ft of torque @ 2500~4750 rpm which is mated to Mitsubishi’s 6 speed Twin Clutch Sportronic® Shift Transmission. The TC-SST is an automated manual transmission with no clutch pedal, that allows the driver to execute lightning quick, silky smooth, upshifts and downshifts using magnesium alloy steering wheel paddle shifters or a console mounted shifter. Basically, the TC-SST is a manual transmission that can select two gears at a time: one gear is engaged by one of the two wet multi-plate clutches, and the other is pre-selected, waiting to be engaged by the second clutch. The gear change is made – either manually or automatically depending on mode selected – when the electro-hydraulically operated clutches are “swapped,” which occurs simultaneously, with no perceptible lag time.

The TC-SST offers two drive modes, Normal or Sport, and within each, the driver may choose automatic or manual shifting. Sport mode uses higher shift points (in automatic mode) and quicker shifting to deliver instant throttle response for better performance feel. The TC-SST delivers satisfying acceleration while also returning superior fuel mileage, thanks to its high efficiency power transmission mechanism.

The full time All-Wheel Control system (AWC) features Mitsubishi’s Active Center Differential (ACD). The ACD unit employs an electronically controlled multi-plate clutch center differential, vectoring drive torque to the front and rear according to different driving conditions to realize the best balance between steering response and traction characteristics on tarmac, gravel, or snow surfaces. Ralliart is also equipped with a front helical and rear mechanical limited slip differentials.

A sophisticated and responsive suspension system

Keeping Lancer Ralliart glued to the road is a carefully engineered suspension system designed to deliver the kind of balance and predictability only found on the world’s best sport cars. The front suspension employs MacPherson struts, including a strut tower bar, while the rear suspension is a multi-link design that features separate coil springs and shocks. Stabilizer bars are used front and rear. All of this combines to deliver precise steering, excellent vehicle dynamics and superior ride and handling. Using separate coil springs and shock absorbers also helps to maximize trunk room. Steering is power assisted rack and pinion with 3.16 turns lock to lock. Active Stability Control (ASC) with Traction Control (TCL) and Anti-lock brakes (ABS) with Electronic Brakeforce Distribution (EBD) and Brake Assist System (BAS) are standard. Superior braking performance is provided by large ventilated front discs and solid rear discs. Standard wheels are an 18 inch, 10-spoke alloy design with 215/45R18 all season performance tires.

Chassis & Safety – A top priority for performance and protection

Built on the Mitsubishi global performance platform, Lancer Ralliart’s highly rigid unibody makes extensive use of high strength steel. This RISE (Reinforced Impact Safety Evolution) unibody structure disperses energy loads during side and rear collisions and controls distortion, enhancing occupant protection and helping to protect the fuel system in the event of a rear impact. All 2011 Lancer Ralliarts feature advanced dual front air bags with occupant seat position sensors, side-impact head protection curtain airbags (for front and rear occupants), front seat mounted side airbags, driver’s side knee air bag, interior head impact protection and active front seat structure to reduce whiplash injury. Also standard are height adjustable front shoulder belts with pretensioners, three point seat belts and head restraints for all occupants and steel side guard door beams. Rear doors have child safety locks and a LATCH system is installed for child restraint systems (CRS). An anti-theft engine immobilizer and anti-theft security alarm system is standard, plus all models have a Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS).

Ralliart – aggressive styling gets attention

Inspired by the sporty design and proportions of the Lancer Evolution, the Ralliart exterior is distinguished by an aggressively styled front bumper design, rear bumper cover, dual outlet muffler and a lightweight aluminum, ducted hood that delivers cooling air to the turbocharger. Ralliart models also have an attractive high mount rear spoiler. Fog lights are standard. For 2011, auto-off Xenon HID headlights are part of the Premium Package.

The interior design places emphasis on function, comfort and vehicle control. Standard features include Sportonic® steering wheel mounted magnesium-alloy paddle shifters; automatic climate control; steering wheel mounted cruise and audio control switches; a 140 watt AM/FM/CD/MP3 head unit with six speakers, digital signal processor and speed compensated volume and equalization control; Bluetooth® 2.0 hands-free cellular phone interface with streaming audio and USB audio input with voice control; power locks and windows; leather wrapped sport-type steering wheel with silver accent; leather wrapped shift knob with shift boot; 6 way adjustable sport bucket driver and 4 way adjustable sport bucket front passenger seat; premium sport fabric seating surfaces; a 60/40 split folding high-back rear seat; and a colour LCD Multi-Information Display which includes: trip meter and odometer, outside temperature, average fuel consumption, and driving distance to empty, service reminder drive mode indicator, gear engaged indicator, water temperature warning lamp and low fuel warning.
